 This theoretical and practical course provides a comprehensive historical survey of the evolution of furniture styles and interior design from ancient civilizations through the Islamic period, the Renaissance, and the modern era. The course examines the defining characteristics, design principles, and stylistic features of furniture across different historical periods, including chairs, sofas, beds, tables, cabinets, and other furnishing elements. It also explores the relationship between furniture and interior environments, including decorative motifs, ornamentation, wall and ceiling treatments, flooring systems, and interior accessories, while highlighting their integration with the architectural character of buildings. Through analytical studies and practical applications, students develop an understanding of the historical development of furniture and interior spaces and their influence on contemporary interior design practice.
