Description
This theoretical and practical course introduces the fundamental principles of form and space in design. Students explore the basic elements of visual composition, including point, line, plane, volume, and mass, together with the geometric properties and spatial relationships that define three-dimensional environments. The course examines the visual characteristics, symbolic meanings, and expressive qualities of forms and spaces, while emphasizing the fundamental principles of design, including balance, repetition, rhythm, unity, contrast, harmony, proportion, scale, dominance, transparency, color, and texture. Students also investigate a range of form-generation and composition techniques, such as addition, subtraction, aggregation, repetition, transformation, lighting, and spatial composition, together with the psychological effects of form and space on human perception and experience.
